Mike Keil for Utah Senate 17 - Medicaid Expansion

Medicaid Expansion

I’m very much in favor of those Utah Decides ballot initiative.  I’m very concerned that Utah’s uninsured rate is twice the national average.  The law Governor Herbert signed into law does not go nearly far enough to address Utah’s healthcare access crisis.

Education

I will work to support increased education funding.  I will ensure the Legislature enforces the deal made with the UEA to avoid the education funding initiative.  The legislature has a history of reneging on funding for education.  I will hold my colleagues accountable and ensure they hold them to their word.

School Safety

School Safety

I will vigorously fight any attempt to arm teachers as any school safety initiatives.  I believe classroom-based bullet proof chambers are a sad necessity in schools.  I believe we need to consider investing in these additions.

Opioid Crisis

Opioid Crisis

More funding and better treatment for opioid addiction is needed.  We cannot continue to rely on the jails to be the front line in opioid addiction treatment.  More emphasis on prevention and community building would be more cost effective and would pay dividends down the road.

Gerrymandering

I am very much in favor of an independent bipartisan commission to draw Utah’s political boundaries.

Air Quality

I am very concerned about Utah’s deteriorating air quality - especially in Tooele and Cache Counties.  It’s important to convert homes and businesses from coal fueled electricity to solar and wind sourced power.  However, automobile exhaust is now America’s largest source of air pollution.  Small, sensible measures (drive-through restrictions during winter, for instance) should be looked at to abate the winter pollution

If you have a couple of bucks to spare, would you mind making a donation to my campaign?

I promise to put it to good use in pursuit of better healthcare, better roads, better air and more equitable pay for women. Utah families deserve better. #WeCanDoBetter
